featuring Alice Butler (RRC007)

Hi Alice, tell us… what do you for a living?

I’m a Recruitment Coordinator at AO.com 🤓

How and why did you first get involved with RRC?

Mum said that a guy she knew from parkrun was starting a running club in Ramsbottom and wanted a Social Secretary on the committee - I figured if I was going to be on the committee of a running club then I best start running 😬😅

What is your favourite running memory or moment?

I think it would have to be East Lancs 10k this year - it was my first 'proper' Club Championships race where I pinned a number on! Before the race we were snuggled up in the car with George, Abbie, Mum & Louise deciding that we weren't going to do it because it was too cold but then ended up running the whole thing with Gina and it was the best hour and 7 minutes ever! We didn't talk for the first 5k then after that you couldn't shut us up or stop us eating Haribo! Then to end it on an absolute high, my first experience of the RRC cheer squad - WOW!

Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us...

I was a Great British Irish Dancing Champion when I was 8 - and I can cross my toes?

Who would be your 4 fantasy dinner guests (dead or alive)?

Gino D'Acampo (he can cook AND bring the bants!), Mrs Hinch (would love to meet her anyway but pick her brains about all things Hinching & house!), David Attenborough (I could listen to him all day, and I think he'd have some incredibly fascinating stories!) and my Grandad Gordon 💕

What is your pre-race routine?

I don't think I've ran enough races for it to qualify as a routine - normally ask mum & dad (pro runners!) tips on how many layers etc. normally decide that I'm actually not doing the race and quit RRC whilst I'm at it and decide that I'm just going to be cheer squad! But then obviously love it at the end vow to never leave RRC EVER!

OK onto the quick-fire round…

Favourite book?

Tough one as I don't really read but I read all 9 books of Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging on a holiday to Florida 12 years ago so I guess that's hard to beat!

Favourite film?

Tough one again as there's so many, The Holiday if you want a feel good chick flick (controversial opinion - it doesn't have to be Christmas!), I'm actually a fan of anything Marvel & DC (love Deadpool! Ryan Reynolds, mmm!) then Moana is probably a guilty pleasure (I know probably every line and song of by heart!)

Favourite band?

Destiny's Child! 💃🏽

Favourite parkrun?

I think it might have to be Preston, gorgeous park, very tough and I've ran it (or little bits of it) with all of my fave running people!

Who is your running hero?

Can I have heroes? My family! They always used to joke that I was adopted because I'd rather run a bath (with a wine!) rather than a race! Dad has always ran since he was little, I have a picture of him and he's the spits of George running a race, Mum because she's not always run but it's changed her life - the people she's met and the people she's impacted is amazing (and who sets out to run a relay of a marathon then decides that she's going to run the whole thing!?) and of course George - he did his first parkrun in joggers and a hoodie but still probably ran it quicker than I could and now he's representing GB in the Triathlon Championships in Mexico and was the Chairman of the Triathlon club at Loughborough! ...I've still got a long way to go!

What would you choose as your Mastermind specialist subject?

Disney Films

You are in lockdown and can only eat one thing for the next 21 days, what are you having?

Easy... Ann Butlers baked goods 😋
